CBD and Coronavirus: Everything you need to know

Coronavirus-CBD

The global concern over the coronavirus known as COVID-19 has many people taking precautions against contracting the virus. Here’s what we know about cannabis and this novel coronavirus.

How can CBD Users stay healthy around coronavirus?

Stop sharing tinctures, CBD oils, gummies or simply put, anything that can be in contact with your mouth.

Sharing items that are at risk of coming into contact with your mouth are a good way to spread any virus, including COVID-19. For now, stick to your own vapes, tinctures edibles and water bottles.

Wash your hands frequently

We can’t emphasize this enough. Thorough hand washing truly does help prevent transmission of the coronavirus, as well as other ailments. Before you sit down for a session or dig into some munchies, make sure to wash your hands for a count of 20 seconds. That’s as long as it takes to sing “Happy Birthday to You”!

Don’t buy into coronavirus remedies

Despite what you might hear from some companies, CBD cannot cure coronavirus. There is currently no vaccine or remedy. Given the hype around CBD, you’ll hear outlandish claims on the effect of CBD on the coronavirus. These claims are not true, there is no solid research around the topic of CBD and the coronavirus.

Be cautious with drugs, alcohol and cannabis around COVID-19

Smoking weed, smoking cigarettes, getting drunk or taking drugs might not be a good idea at the best of times, but definitely not when you’re down with a virus – this especially applies to cannabis.

Inhaling smoke is not what your lungs need when you’re fighting a cold or flu.

Be careful when making physical contact with others

Stop shaking hands. A wave or friendly verbal greeting helps everyone. You don’t need to lock yourself in a panic room isolate yourself (unless you’re down with COVID-19). However, do consider what interactions you have with people and public surfaces when you’re out and about.

Leave the face masks for ill patients and healthcare workers

Masks are meant to prevent already infected patients from spreading the virus, and to protect healthcare professionals working in high-risk environments. Frequent hand washing is far more effective than wearing a mask.

Be aware of COVID-19 symptoms

Don’t rush to the emergency room if it’s just a common cold. However, if you fit the criteria for COVID-19 symptoms then get yourself tested.

Coronavirus symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Have been in contact with a COVID-19 patient, or traveled recently to an area with an ongoing spread.

Remember, the definition of an area with “ongoing spread” changes pretty much by the hour.

Make sure you have a self-quarantine plan

If you end up exposed to COVID-19, think about how you can avoid spreading the virus. If you’re able to work from home, then make a plan with your employer. The CDC has a dedicated plan for those who stay at home with a suspected case of the coronavirus.

Will the coronavirus affect CBD supplies?

For the companies that buy the CBD from from China and sell it illegally, yes. However, here at Balance CBD our hemp is grown in the US.

If you buy CBD oil from a reputable company, you should be able to get what you need.
